"Fall" into Learning at Live Oak
We have many activities going on as we move into the season of Fall here at Live Oak. Our Leader in Me program is in its initial stages, as students work on Being Proactive, the first habit we are concentrating on in our every day lives. Students are working at taking responsibility for themselves and their actions and doing the right thing, even when no one is looking! This is a great habit to use at home as well so be on the lookout for times to bring this habit to the forefront with your family as well!
With our ongoing Accelerated Reader program, students are hard at work reading great books, taking their comprehension quizzes, and earning points. this year, Mrs. Anderson is spurring them on with a grade level reading contest, so encourage your children to read, read, read! Details will be coming!
In math, Common Core Standards are being implemented in full swing, with teachers sharing lessons that encourage deep thinking into concepts, and have students write about how they solve math problems. Most lessons also include visual models to demonstrate mathematical thinking. Many classes have begun using a new computer program called Dreambox. It allows your child to learn math new math concepts as well as practice ones for fluency that they already are familiar with. If your child has started in with this program here at school, then they can also get online at home if you have Internet. You can access the website through our District webpage, going to "For Students" on the Quick Links on the left side, then Dreambox for LOE. Students will use the same username and password that they use at school. This is a great program, so the more time your children can get on it, the better!
