  • Yolanda Casas, we will miss you!

    Yolanda Casas

Yolanda Casas, one of our Safety Monitors stationed right on Fallbrook Street Road and Heald Lane for 9 years, is retiring at the of the school year.
Her warmth and humor gave a great start and end to our students' days! We are going to miss her a bunch. She touched many lives and many parents as she faithfully cared and crossed
students on Fallbrook Street Road every morning and after school.

  • November Flag Ceremony

On Friday, November 6th, La Paloma students invited veterans in the community, and their parents who have served or are currently serving in the military, to join in the school’s monthly flag ceremony. This month’s theme was “Honor our Veterans”.

The fourth grade classes of Mrs. Rowley and Ms. Scott hosted this month’s flag ceremony. La Paloma students dressed in red, white, and blue to show their support of veterans on this day.

The fourth grader led the audience of parents, family members, students, community members, and staff through the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem.

The student-led Presentation Team announced student leaders; one student from each class chosen by the teacher for exemplary performance of Habit #2, “Begin With the End in Mind”, from their Leader In Me program.

The student leaders shook Principal Schlueter’s hand, and received their certificate from the assistant principal, Mrs. Ellefsen. The students lined up on stage to be recognized and cheered on by their classmates.

The ceremony continued with a song for each of the following services: Navy, Marines, Air Force, Army, and Coast Guard. The fourth graders had been rehearsing these songs for weeks, making sure that each student knew the songs and didn’t need the lyrics page during the performance.

According to sixth grader Alexa Cladwell, reporting for La Paloma’s student news team, “They did an excellent job! The audience was cheering and clapping excitedly. I think it’s safe to say that they enjoyed the performance.”

To conclude the flag ceremony, the students invited all the veterans in the audience up to the front of the stage to thank them for their service to their country, and awarded each of them with a medallion the students had made in class.

The Leader in Me

  • Greetings La Paloma Families and Friends!

    "Inspiring Today's Learners, Tomorrow's Leaders"

are on a journey to GREATNESS with our new focus:

    The Leader
This is an innovative, school-wide model that will increase teacher effectiveness, student engagement and academic success, while preparing our students to be leaders in the 21st century.

Enjoy our first graders singing "I Am A Leader', lyrics by Mrs. Carrie Downs, 1st Grade Teacher, La Paloma
Meet Jose,  a La Paloma Leader:

There are 7 Habits that we will be teaching and using at La Paloma:
     Habit 1
     Habit 1: Be Proactive
I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.
     Habit 2
Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind
I plan ahead and set goals. I do things that have meaning and make a difference. I am an important pare of my classroom and contribute to my school's mission and vision.
     Habit 3
Habit 3: Put First Things First
I spend my time on things that are most important. This means I say no to things I know I should not do. I set priorities, make a schedule, and achieve my goals. I am disciplined and organized.
    Habit 4
     Habit 4: Think Win-Win
I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. I make deposits in others' Emotional Bank Accounts. When conflicts arise, I look for third alternatives. I look for ways to be a good citizen.
    Habit 5
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
I listen to other people's ideas and feelings. I try to see from their viewpoints. I listen to others without interrupting. I am confident in voicing my ideas. I look people in the eyes when talking.
    Habit 6
    Habit 6: Synergize
I value other people's strengths and learn from them. I work well in groups, even with people who are different than me. I seek out other people's ideas to solve problems because I know that by teaming with others we can create better solutions  than can anyone of us alone. I am humble.
    Habit 7
    Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
I take care of my body by eating right, exercising, and getting sleep. I spend time with my family and friends. I learn in lots of ways and lots of places, not just at school. I take times to find meaningful ways to help others.
At home, we invite you to embrace the 7 Habits and offer you guides to help you at home:
See you all on our path to GREATNESS!!
